President Md. Abdul Hamid has given his assent to ten bills adopted in the 23rd session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad. The bills are: Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute Bill-2018, Shishu (Children) (Amendment) Bill-2018, Housing and Building Research Institute Bill-2018, Standards of Weights and Measures Bill-2018, Sarkari Chakori (Government Job) Bill-2018, Bangladesh Labour (Amendment ) Bill-2018, Bangladesh Shishu Academy Bill-2018, Mental Health Bill-2018, Infectious Diseases (Prevention, Control and Eradication) Bill-2018 and National Curriculum and Textbook Board Bill-2018.
Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda has asked the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates and political parties for holding a free and fair national election. The CEC gave the directive while speaking at a meeting with the AROs at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday. The CEC urged the AROs to coordinate with all Upazila Polling Officers and Officers-in-Charge of all thanas to hold a peaceful election.
The Election Commission has directed the aspirants for the 11th parliamentary polls to remove their respective posters, banners and billboards related to the election within the next three days. The commission has also directed all local government bodies including city corporations and municipalities, to take necessary actions over this issue.
A delegation of Jatiya Oikyafront led by Dr. Kamal Hossain held meeting with Election Commission yesterday and requested the commission to defer the upcoming general election. A delegation of Awami League led by H T Imam also held meeting with the Election Commission yesterday and urged the commission not to defer the election.
Canadian Prime Minister Justine Trudeau has praised Prime Minister as a great leader of Bangladesh as well as developing countries. The Canadian Premier made the appreciation while attending a function in Singapore on Tuesday. Summit Group Chairman Muhammed Aziz Khan also attended the function.
A meeting of Bangladesh Awami League Parliamentary Board will be held this afternoon at the AL President’s Political Office at Dhanmondi. Awami League Chief Prime Minister will preside over the meeting.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim has said, the government is committed to hold the next general election as per the constitution. The Minister said this as Indian High Commission to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla called on him at his secretariat office yesterday. During the meeting Mr. Shringla said, India is glad to see that a participatory election is going to be held in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh and Myanmar have completed all necessary preparations to repatriate some 150 Rohingyas today, but the repatriation looks complex and uncertain amid call from the UN to halt it. Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam said this to the media in Cox's Bazar yesterday. The final decision will be taken based on the report of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on the situation in Rakhine state of Myanmar, he added.
The premier show of a documentary titled 'Prime Minister - A Daughter’s Tale' sketching the life and works of Prime Minister , daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be held at the Star Cineplex of Basundhara City in Dhaka today. The docudrama will be projected through a number of cinema halls in Dhaka and Chattogram beginning from tomorrow.
Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism and NDDs Saima W. Hossain is going to present today two separate papers at the concluding session of 5th World Autism Organization International Congress 2018 which is being held at Houston in Texas.
