E-Passport Application

Who can Apply?

  • If the applicant is a Bangladeshi origin national living in United Kingdon or Ireland having required documents to prove his/her Bangladeshi origin.
  • If the applicant is a Newborn of a Bangladeshi origin.
  • If the applicant has an Existing MRP which has a validity less than 1 Year. We will not be able to receive any E-Passport application if the existing MRP has a validity more than one year.
  • If the applicant has an E-Passport which has a validity of less than 1 year.
  • If the applicant has an old styled Handwritten Bangladeshi passport.
  • If the applicant lost the previous handwritten passport/MRP/E-Passport but has a copy of it. In that case a lost report reference letter lodged in the UK police department will be mandatory.
  • The applicants must have a Bangladeshi National Id card (NID) or a 17 digit online verifiable Birth Registration Certificate (English Version) to apply for an E- Passport. If the application is with a Birth Registration Certificate, the BRC must be online verifiable and must contain English data. Please verify this from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/
  • We will not be able to process an E-Passport application with a Birth Certificate which is issued from Dhaka South City Corporation after 2022.

Mandatory Physical Appearance

Please note that Physical Appearance is mandatory for e-passport enrolment, as such, applicants must take an appointment. While you apply, the appointments will be available towards the end of the application.

Application Process:

Steps of e-Passport application process

  • Step 1: Applicants must lodge their application online. Please apply online at https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • Step 2: Appointment Booking: Applicants must make an appointment before visiting the High Commission. The appointment can be booked from the same portal after you have submitted the application.
  • Step 3: Biometric Enrolment Applicants are required to appear in person on the date and time of appointment at the High Commission to submit their fingerprint, iris scan and signature. Children under 6 years of age are exempted from Biometric.
  • Step 4: Payment: The online payment option is not applicable for Bangladeshi mission abroad. On the day of the appointment Payments should be made using a credit card/Debit Card at the E-Passport counter. We will not accept any cash or postal order payment at the counter.
  • Step 5: After the payment is made the applicants biometric (Fingerprints, Iris) will be captured and documents will be scanned, and the applicant will be handed over an enrolment slip.
  • Step 6: Ready and Collection: Once the application is completed the applicant will be handed over an enrolment slip which will be required during passport collection. Email Notification will be sent to the applicant once the passport is ready for collection. You will be able to collect the passport any working day from 2.00 PM to 4.30 PM from Bangladesh High Commission London after you have got the email notification.

Tracking the Application

Instruction regarding Filling in the form:

Applicants must lodge their applications online. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.

Note: The applicants must use google chrome to open this link.

  • The applicant will require an active email ID to create an account.
  • During the online application process, ensure you have your NID or 17-digit online verifiable birth certificate (in English) at hand.
  • Select ‘United Kingdom’ as your application processing office and then select London.
  • When you fill in the application form, please make sure you are applying from United Kingdom and the Bangladesh Mission will be London. Please put your Permanent address in Bangladesh and present address in United Kingdom/Ireland. We will not be able to receive any application which is applied anywhere other than London. The application will not proceed if there is in any mistake in Permanent address and Present Address.
  • After submitting your application, download the form and the summary sheet with the barcode (PDF format). After downloading, please print the form and summary sheet with appointment schedule.
  • To apply for e-passport, you must have either a Bangladeshi NID card or a Birth Registration Certificate (BRC) (a 17-digit signed Birth Registration certificate which is verifiable at https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/).  In case of BRC, please make sure that verified BRC contains the necessary data, e.g. names of the applicant, Date of Birth and the parents in English and they match with the corresponding data in your application. If they do not match, please contact the office from which the BRC was issued to do the necessary correction. Your passport application may be unsuccessful if there is a mismatch between your application, previous MRP/E-Passport/Hand written passport and NID or Birth Registration Certificate data. All data should match together in order for a successful E-Passport application.
  • Avoid using prefixes like Mr./Mrs./Ms./Dr. with your first name. Instead, write your middle name (if any) with your first name, unless your existing documents specify otherwise.
  • All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory.
  • Do not deviate from the information provided in your NID/BRC.
  • Machine-Readable Passports (MRPs) may still be used as long as they are valid, so there’s no need to apply for an e-Passport if your MRP’s validity extends beyond 1 year.
  • If any discrepancies arise between your NID and MRP or BRC and MRP, they must be corrected before proceeding with your e-Passport application.

Required Documents

Category 1: E-Passport Application from Bangladeshi Machine-Readable Passport (MRP)/E-Passport:

Appointment Booking: : Applicants must make an appointment before visiting the High Commission. The appointment can be booked from the same portal after you have submitted the application.

On the date of appointment, the applicant needs to bring the following documents:

  • 1. Original Bangladeshi National ID card (NID)/Original of 17-digit signed Bangladeshi birth certificate [English version will be required]. For Birth Certificate please make sure this is online verifiable from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/. Please do not bring the verified copy of the Birth Certificate only. We will require the original signed Birth Certificate.
  • 2. Print the online completed form with barcode and the summary sheet with appointment. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • 3. The applicant must bring the Existing original MRP/E-Passport. If the applicant lost his previous MRP/E-Passport, in that case, the applicant must bring a photocopy of the MRP/E-Passport and a lost report reference letter lodged in the UK police department will be mandatory.
  • 4. Proof of Address of the Applicant.
  • 5. If your marital status is changed from your previous MRP you must bring your Marriage Certificate/Divorce Certificate. If the marriage was conducted in the UK/Ireland, a Registered Marriage Certificate will be required. We do not accept Muslim Marriage Certificate. Any divorce must be solemnised by the court if the divorce was conducted in the UK.
  • 6. If the applicant is a British/Irish/Any other country passport holder, the original British/Irish /Any other country passport will be necessary.
  • 7. If the applicant is a full-time student and wants student discount fee the applicant must provide a Student ID card/School-University letter/CAS Letter where the enrolment starts and end date is clearly mentioned.
  • 8. Presence of the applicant during the enrolment is mandatory regardless of age.

Note:
A Police Verification will be held if there is any change in the permanent address from the previous MRP or E-Passport. A police verification will be also held if the previous MRP date of issuance was more than 10 years before. E-Passport will be issued subject to successful police verification in Bangladesh. Bangladesh High Commission London will not be responsible for any delay in the police verification process.

Category 2: For First Bangladesh Passport (Newborn of Bangladeshi origin/Bangladeshi origin of any age born in the UK and never had a Bangladeshi passport)

On the date of appointment, the applicant needs to bring the following documents:

  • 1. Original Bangladeshi National ID card (NID)/Original of 17-digit signed Bangladeshi birth certificate [English version will be required]. For Birth Certificate please make sure this is online verifiable from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/. Please do not bring the verified copy of the Birth Certificate only. We will require the original signed Birth Certificate. If the applicant does not have a Bangladeshi Birth Certificate, the BRC application can be made from this link: https://bhclondon.org.uk/birth-registration.
  • 2. Print the online completed form with barcode and the summary sheet. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • 3. Original UK/Irish Birth Certificate/Any other country Birth Certificate [if the applicant is born in the UK or Ireland or any other country]
  • 4. 3R: 89 × 127 mm (3.5 in × 5 in) size lab printed white background photo for the applicant up to 6 years of age. [The photo should not be older than 3 months] (2 copies). The child should wear a colourful dress. The background of the photo must be white and the background should be cover at least 40% area of the whole photo.
  • 5. Parents’ original MRP / Parents’ Old styled handwritten Bangladeshi passport/ Parents’ e-Passport / Parents’ Bangladeshi National ID card (NID) is mandatory.
  • 6. Proof of Address will be required.
  • 7. If the applicant is married and wants to include spouses name in the passport, the applicant must bring the registered Marriage Certificate.
  • 8. For the adult applicant (Over 18 Years of age) who never had a Bangladeshi passport need to provide a basic DBS check from the UK authority.
  • 9. If the applicant is a British/Irish/Any other country passport holder, the original British/Irish /Any other country passport will be necessary.
  • 10. If the applicant is a full-time student and wants student discount fee the applicant must provide a Student ID card/School-University letter/CAS Letter where the enrolment start and end date is clearly mentioned.
  • 11. Presence of the applicant during the enrolment is mandatory regardless of age.

Note:
A Police Verification will be held in the given permanent address in Bangladesh for the applicant for any new Passport regardless of any age. E-Passport will be issued subject to successful police verification in Bangladesh. Bangladesh High Commission London will not be responsible for any delay in the police verification process.

Category 3: E-Passport Application from Bangladeshi Handwritten Passport

On the date of appointment, the applicant needs to bring the following documents:

  • 1. Original Bangladeshi National ID card (NID)/Original of 17-digit signed Bangladeshi birth certificate [English version will be required]. For Birth Certificate please make sure this is online verifiable from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/. Please do not bring the verified copy of the Birth Certificate only. We will require the original signed Birth Certificate.
  • 2. Print the online completed form with barcode and the summary sheet. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • 3. Original of Old styled handwritten Bangladeshi passport will be required. If the applicant lost his previous Handwritten passport, in that case, the applicant must bring a copy of the previous handwritten passport and a lost report reference letter lodged in the UK police department will be mandatory.
  • 4. Proof of Address of the Applicant.

Data Correction from previous Passport

  • 1. If the applicant is over 18 years of age and wants any correction in the applicants Name, Parents name, Date of Birth and place of Birth from the applicants previous MRP/EPP/Handwritten passport, as per the instructions of the Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs the applicant must have a Bangladeshi National ID card which will support these corrections. For the applicants who are over 18 years, we will not be able to receive any correction application based on the corrected Digital Birth Certificate. If the applicant is under 18 years of age the above correction applications will be accepted based on Digital Birth Certificate. However, these corrections are subject to the approval of the Department of immigration and Passport office Dhaka and may need a prior Police verification. Hence, the estimated processing time may be more than usual.
  • 2. If the applicant changes/corrected the permanent address from his previous passport, then the application will automatically go for a prior police verification from the system. Hence, the estimated processing time may be more than usual.
  • 3. If an applicant wants to add or remove his/her spouse’s name in ePassport, then he/she must bring their registered marriage certificate or divorce certificate (Decree of Absolute/solemnised by the court) or both (removal of previous spouse name and adding new one).
  • 4. The applicant may correct or change the emergency contact address, in that case the applicant must provide one utility bills of the emergency contact address.

Very Important Instructions Before applying to avoid common mistakes

  • 1. The application must be submitted to Bangladesh High Commission London. Please ensure you selected ‘NO’ when it asks for ‘Are you applying from Bangladesh’ and then select ‘United Kingdom/Ireland’ as your country and then select ‘London’ as your Bangladeshi mission. When the system asks for Present address, please select UK/Ireland as your present address. If you provide your present address in Bangladesh by mistake, your application will be submitted in Bangladesh. THE HIGH COMMISSION, LONDON WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECEIVE ANY APPLICATION WHICH IS SUBMITTED IN ANY PASSPORT OFFICE IN BANGLADESH INSTEAD OF LONDON OFFICE. In that case the application must individually contact the passport office in Bangladesh and will need to cancel the application to resubmit in London.
  • 2. If you have a previous Machine-readable passport or an E-Passport, you must select the appropriate box. If you have a handwritten passport, you must select ‘No I do not have/Handwritten passport’ box.
  • 3. Before appearing the High Commission on the date of your appointment, please make sure your Birth Certificate/NID has the same data and spelling (specially Name, date of Birth, Place of Birth and parents name) as per your previous MRP/E-Passport/Handwritten passport. For a very small mismatch in data among Application, MRP/E-Passport with BRC/NID; the application may not be successful or may get delayed in Bangladesh. The High Commission will not be responsible for such delay or for unsuccessful application. The 17 Digit Birth Registration data must be online verifiable and need to make sure that the ENGLISH version data is available in database. The 17digit Birth Registration data can be verified from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/ this link.
  • 4. For applying a new Passport having a previous Bangladeshi passport is mandatory (this is exempted for the UK born only). If you are staying in UK for a long time and have lost your previous Bangladeshi Handwritten passport and you do not have at last a copy of your handwritten passport in that case Parents Bangladeshi Passport/NID, Bangladesh local chairman Nationality Certificate and Succession Certificate may be required. These applications must be supported by a Lost Police Report. However, additional documents may be required based on the interview for the passport application. The application will not be accepted if you appear only with the application and with a digital Birth Certificate.

Other General Instructions:

  • As per the recent changes, spouses name does not appear on the physical E-passport. The spouse name is only included in the database. If an applicant wants to add or remove his/her spouse’s name in ePassport database, then he/she must bring their registered marriage certificate or divorce certificate (Decree of Absolute/solemnised by the court) or both of these (removal of previous spouse name and adding new one).
  • If someone loose his/her e-Passport and wants to make a new e-Passport, he must bring a lost report from police.
  • Light colour dresses (such ash white, sky, ash etc.) may cause photo capturing refusal engraved in system software. Applications are cordially requested to avoid light-coloured dresses.
  • If case of biometric capturing difficulties i.e medical lenses, finger amputation or skin problems that may demand the biometric exemption, valid and specific letter from concern Physician/NHS/GP must be shown at the time of enrolment.
  • We will not be able to process an E-Passport application with a Birth Certificate issued from Dhaka South City Corporation after 2022.
  • Any changes to the information provided, or undisclosed/fraudulent information, may result in potential cancellation/ delays/ extending the usual processing time. A passport application may also be cancelled if any undeclared MRP/E-Passport is found after fingerprint capture.

e-Passport Fee and Mode of Payment and processing time:

After successful application submission the E-passport fee in the application form will be given in Dollar currency. However, the actual fee that you will need to pay in the counter in pounds. The E-Passport fee for Bangladesh High Commission London is calculated in Pounds and is fixed considering the Dollar to Pound currency conversion fluctuation.

E-Passport Regular fee

  • A 48 Page E passport Regular fee
    • 1) for 5 years the fee will be 96 Pounds
    • 2) for 10 years the fee will be 118 Pounds.
  • Student fee for 48-page E Passport Regular fee
    • 1) for 5 years will be 30 Pounds and
    • 2) for 10 years will be 50 pounds.

E-Passport Express fee

  • A 48 Page E passport Express fee
    • 1) for 5 years the fee will be 145 Pounds
    • 2) for 10 years the fee will be 170 Pounds.
  • Student fee for 48-page E Passport Express fee
    • 1) for 5 years will be 45 Pounds and
    • 2) for 10 years will be 75 pounds.
 

Note: 

  • Express delivery will only be possible if the applicant has a previous MRP or an E-Passport (date of issue is within last 10 years) and there is no data mismatch between Application, previous MRP/E-Passport and Birth Registration Certificate/NID. 

  • Express delivery will not be successful if there is any Police Verification is required in Bangladesh in the application process. 

  • To get the student discount the student must be a Full-time student with sufficient proof. Students must provide a CAS letter with a confirmed validity/valid Student ID (Where the session is mentioned) or a student letter from the educational institution confirming the studentship. Only the Students upto Masters will be considered for student discount. The student must be a full-time student. Part time and ESOL students will not be considered for student fees. PHD/Post Doctoral/M Phill students will not be eligible for student discount.

  • Passport fees are non-refundable regardless of whether the application is rejected or withdrawn. 
  • The High Commission accepts only the Credit/Debit card payable in the counter. We do not accept any cash payment.

Processing time:

The processing time for an e-Passport may vary due to the thorough security and information validation procedures implemented by both the e-Passport system, Department of Immigration and Passport office, Dhaka and Special Branch, Bangladesh Police, if police verification is required. These checks are carried out to confirm the authenticity of the information provided during the application process.

Regular Delivery

If there is no police verification required and if there is no mismatch of data between Application, MRP/EPP and between NID/BRC we expect to deliver the passport within 4 to 6 weeks’ time. For First Bangladeshi passport or E-Passport application from Handwritten passport, a police verification is mandatory which will be carried out in Bangladesh. The delivery of the passport will depend on the police verification process.  

Express Delivery

If there is no police verification required and if there is no mismatch of data between Application, MRP/EPP and between NID/BRC we expect to deliver the passport within 21 days’ time. 

Note: The above time is not always guaranteed as the whole process depends on the process of Bangladesh Immigration and Passport authority.

Collecting the passport

  • You will get an email notification on the email address that you used to create the user ID when the passport is ready for issuance. The collection time will be from 11.00 AM to 12.30 PM and from 2.00 PM to 4.30 PM any working day after you get the email notification or see the tracking status as ‘Your passport is ready for issuance’.
  • Applicants need to bring the original delivery slip for collecting the passports.
  • Only in the case of medical emergency an E-Passport can be collected by an authorized person. In that case the authorized person must bring his/her Bangladeshi passport/NID/BRC and signed AUTHORIZATION LETTER from the applicant.   • Parents must collect the passport of a child. Parents must bring the original delivery receipt and Parents Bangladeshi passport/NID/BRC.

What will happen on the day of your appointment:

  • After arriving at the High Commission, the applicant needs to go to the 27 Queens gate from where the applicant needs to collect a token. Tokens will be given as per the appointment schedule.
  • When you have the token, you need to come to the 28 Queens gate basement consular area counter 1.
  • Your documents will be checked in the counter and payment will be taken.
  • After the payment you need to wait for the biometric capture.
  • When the biometric is completed, you will be handed over a delivery receipt and collection instructions.
  • The whole process might need approximately 1 hour to complete. So, you are requested to keep enough time in your hand.
  • We will try to serve you as per your given appointment schedule and time. However, as we deal with quite a large number of applicants this might not always possible due to the pre-existing queue, difficulties in previous applicants’ biometric capture and documents checking.
