E-Passport Application

Who can Apply?

  • If the applicant is a Bangladeshi origin national living in United Kingdon or Ireland having required documents to prove his/her Bangladeshi origin.
  • If the applicant is a Newborn of a Bangladeshi origin.
  • If the applicant has an Existing MRP which has a validity less than 1 Year. We will not be able to receive any E-Passport application if the existing MRP has a validity more than one year.
  • If the applicant has an old styled Handwritten Bangladeshi passport.
  • If the applicant lost the previous handwritten passport/MRP but has a copy of it. In that case a lost report reference letter lodged in the UK police department will be mandatory.
  • The applicants must have a Bangladeshi National Id card (NID) or a 17 digit online verifiable Birth Registration Certificate to apply for an E- Passport.
  • We will not be able to process an E-Passport application with a Birth Certificate issued from Dhaka South City Corporation.

Application Process:

Steps of e-Passport application process

  • Step 1: Applicants must lodge their application online. Please apply online at https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • Step 2: Appointment Booking: Applicants must make an appointment before visiting the High Commission. The appointment can be booked from the same portal after you have submitted the application.
  • Step 3: Biometric Enrolment Applicants are required to appear in person on the date and time of appointment at the High Commission to submit their fingerprint, iris scan and signature. Children under 6 years of age are exempted from Biometric.
  • Step 4: Payment: The online payment option is not applicable for Bangladeshi mission abroad. On the day of the appointment Payments should be made using a credit card/Debit Card at the E-Passport counter. We will not accept any cash or postal order payment at the counter.
  • Step 5: After the payment is made the applicants biometric (Fingerprints, Iris) will be captured and documents will be scanned, and the applicant will be handed over an enrolment slip.
  • Step 6: Ready and Collection: Once the application is completed the applicant will be handed over an enrolment slip which will be required during passport collection. Email Notification will be sent to the applicant once the passport is ready for collection. You will be able to collect the passport any working day from 11 AM to 12.30 PM from Bangladesh High Commission London after you have got the email notification.

Instruction regarding Filling in the form:

Applicants must lodge their applications online. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.

Note: The applicants must use google chrome to open this link.

  • The applicant will require an active email ID to create an account.
  • During the online application process, ensure you have your NID or 17-digit online verifiable birth certificate (in English) at hand.
  • Select ‘United Kingdom’ as your application processing office and then select London.
  • When you fill in the application form, please make sure you put your Permanent address in Bangladesh and present address in United Kingdom/Ireland. The application will not proceed if there is in any mistake in Permanent address and Present Address.
  • After submitting your application, download the form and the submission receipt with the barcode (PDF format). After downloading, please print the form and submission receipt with appointment schedule.
  • To apply for e-passport, you must have either a Bangladeshi NID card or a Birth Registration Certificate (BRC) (a 17-digit signed Birth Registration certificate which is verifiable at everify.bdris.gov.bd). In case of BRC, please make sure that verified BRC contains the necessary data, e.g. names of the applicant and the parents in English and they match with the corresponding data in your application. If they do not match, please contact the office from which the BRC was issued to do the necessary correction. Your passport application may be unsuccessful if there is a mismatch between your application, previous MRP, NID or Birth Registration Certificate data. All data should match together in order for a successful E-Passport application.
  • Avoid using prefixes like Mr./Mrs./Ms./Dr. with your first name. Instead, write your middle name (if any) with your first name, unless your existing documents specify otherwise.
  • All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory.
  • Do not deviate from the information provided in your NID/BRC.
  • Machine-Readable Passports (MRPs) may still be used as long as they are valid, so there’s no need to apply for an e-Passport if your MRP’s validity extends beyond 1 year.
  • If any discrepancies arise between your NID and MRP or BRC and MRP, they must be corrected before proceeding with your e-Passport application.

Required Documents

Category 1: E-Passport Application from Bangladeshi Machine-Readable Passport (MRP):

Appointment Booking: Applicants must make an appointment before visiting the High Commission. The appointment can be booked from the same portal after you have submitted the application. On the date of appointment, the following documents will be required:

  • 1. Original Bangladeshi National ID card (NID)/Original of 17-digit signed Bangladeshi birth certificate [English version will be required]. For Birth Certificate please make sure this is online verifiable from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/. Please do not bring the verified copy of the Birth Certificate only. We will require the original signed Birth Certificate.
  • 2. Print the online completed form with barcode and the summary sheet with appointment. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • 3. The applicant must bring the Existing original MRP. If the applicant lost his previous MRP, in that case, the applicant must bring a photocopy of the MRP and a lost report reference letter lodged in the UK police department will be mandatory.
  • 4. Proof of Address of the Applicant.
  • 5. If your marital status is changed from your previous MRP you must bring your Marriage Certificate/Divorce Certificate.
  • 6. If the applicant is a British/Irish passport holder, the original British/Irish passport will be necessary.
  • 7. If the applicant is a full-time student and wants student discount fee the applicant must provide a Student ID card/School-University letter/CAS Letter where the enrolment start and end date is clearly mentioned.
  • 8. Presence of the applicant during the enrolment is mandatory regardless of age.

Category 2: For First Bangladesh Passport (Newborn of Bangladeshi origin/Bangladeshi origin of any age born in the UK and never had a Bangladeshi passport)

Appointment Booking: Applicants must make an appointment before visiting the High Commission. The appointment can be booked from the same portal after you have submitted the application. On the date of appointment, the following documents will be required:

  • 1. Original Bangladeshi National ID card (NID)/Original of 17-digit signed Bangladeshi birth certificate [English version will be required]. For Birth Certificate please make sure this is online verifiable from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/. Please do not bring the verified copy of the Birth Certificate only. We will require the original signed Birth Certificate.
  • 2. Print the online completed form with barcode and the summary sheet. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • 3. Original UK/Irish Birth Certificate [if the applicant is born in the UK or Ireland]
  • 4. 3R: 89 × 127 mm (3.5 in × 5 in) size lab printed white background photo for the applicant up to 6 years of age. [The photo should not be older than 3 months] (2 copies). The child should wear a colourful dress. The background of the photo must be white and the background should be cover at least 40% area of the whole photo.
  • 5. Parents’ original MRP/ Parents’ Old styled handwritten Bangladeshi passport/ Parents’ e-Passport copy/ Parents’ Bangladeshi National ID card (NID).
  • 6. Proof of Address will be required.
  • 7. If the applicant is married and wants to include spouses name in the passport, the applicant must bring the Marriage Certificate.
  • 8. For the adult applicant (Over 18 Years of age) who never had a Bangladeshi passport need to provide a basic DBS check from the UK authority.
  • 9. If the applicant is a British/Irish passport holder, the Original of British/Irish passport will be necessary.
  • 10. If the applicant is a full-time student and wants student discount fee the applicant must provide a Student ID card/School-University letter/CAS Letter where the enrolment start and end date is clearly mentioned.
  • 9. Presence of the applicant during the enrolment is mandatory regardless of age.

Note:
A Police Verification will be held in the given permanent address in Bangladesh for the applicant where it is necessary. E Passport will be issued subject to successful police verification in Bangladesh. Bangladesh High Commission London will not be responsible for any delay in the police verification process.

Category 3: E-Passport Application from Bangladeshi Handwritten Passport

Appointment Booking: Applicants must make an appointment before visiting the High Commission. The appointment can be booked from the same portal after you have submitted the application. On the date of appointment, the following documents will be required:

  • Original Bangladeshi National ID card (NID)/Original of 17-digit signed Bangladeshi birth certificate [English version will be required]. For Birth Certificate please make sure this is online verifiable from https://everify.bdris.gov.bd/. Please do not bring the verified copy of the Birth Certificate only. We will require the original signed Birth Certificate.
  • Print the online completed form with barcode and the summary sheet with appointment booking. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.
  • Original of Old styled handwritten Bangladeshi passport will be required. If the applicant lost his previous Handwritten passport, in that case, the applicant must bring a copy of the previous handwritten passport and a lost report reference letter lodged in the UK police department will be mandatory.
  • Proof of Address of the Applicant.
  • If the applicant is married and wants to include spouses name in the passport, the applicant must bring the Marriage Certificate.
  • If the applicant is a British/Irish passport holder, the Original of British/Irish passport will be necessary.
  • If the applicant is a full-time student and wants student discount fee the applicant must provide a Student ID card/School-University letter/CAS Letter where the enrolment start and end date is clearly mentioned.
  • Presence of the applicant during the enrolment is mandatory regardless of age.

Note:
A Police Verification will be carried out in the given permanent address in Bangladesh where it is necessary. E Passport will be issued subject to successful police verification in Bangladesh. Bangladesh High Commission London will not be responsible for any delay in the police verification process.

Other General Instructions:

  • If an applicant wants to add or remove his/her spouse’s name in ePassport, then he/she must bring their registered marriage certificate or divorce certificate (Decree of Absoulate) or both of these (removal of previous spouse name and adding new one).
  • If someone loose his/her e-Passport and wants to make a new e-Passport, he must bring a lost report from police.
  • Light colour dresses (such ash white, sky, ash etc.) may cause photo capturing refusal engraved in system software. Applications are cordially requested to avoid light-coloured dresses.
  • If case of biometric capturing difficulties i.e medical lenses, finger amputation or skin problems that may demand the biometric exemption, valid and specific letter from concern Physician/NHS/GP must be shown at the time of enrolment.
  • We will not be able to process an E-Passport application with a Birth Certificate issued from Dhaka South City Corporation.

e-Passport Fee and Mode of Payment and processing time:

  • A 48 Page E passport fee
    • 1) for 5 years the fee will be 96 Pounds
    • 2) for 10 years the fee will be 118 Pounds.
  • Student fee for 48-page E Passport
    • 1) for 5 years will be 30 Pounds and
    • 2) for 10 years will be 50 pounds.

      Note: The student must be a Full-time student with sufficient proof. Students must provide a CAS letter with a confirmed validity/valid Student ID (Where the session is mentioned) or a student letter from the educational institution confirming the studentship. The student must be a full-time student. Part time and ESOL students will not be considered for student fees.
  • Passport fees are non-refundable regardless of whether the application is rejected or withdrawn.
  • The High Commission accepts only the Credit/Debit card payable in the counter. We do not accept any cash payment.

Processing time:

The processing time for an e-Passport may vary due to the thorough security and information validation procedures implemented by both the e-Passport system, Department of Immigration and Passport office, Dhaka and Special Branch, Bangladesh Police, if police verification is required. These checks are carried out to confirm the authenticity of the information provided during the application process.

Note: Any changes to the information provided, or undisclosed/fraudulent information, may result in potential cancellation/ delays/ extending the usual processing time.

Tracking the Application

Collecting the passport

Email Notification will be sent to the applicant when the passport is ready for collection from the Bangladesh High Commission London. You will be able to collect the passport any working day from 11 AM to 12.30 PM from Bangladesh High Commission London after you have got the email notification.

Applicants can choose from one of the following options for passport collection:

  • In person: We advise all the applicants to visit in person for collecting the passport as Fingerprints will be required during collection. The applicant must bring the original delivery receipt during collection.
  • Through Authorised representatives: In some extremely urgent cases a passport collection through authorised representatives may be necessary. In that case a written authorisation from the applicant mentioning the authorised persons name and relation will be required. The authorised person must bring a photo ID (passport, driving license) along with the original delivery slip.
  • Passport collection by parents for the age under 18 Years: Birth certificate of the applicant and a photo ID of the parents will be required along with the original delivery slip.
