President Md. Abdul Hamid left Dhaka for Geneva last night on a five-day official visit to Switzerland to attend the summit of World Investment Forum which will be held in Geneva, the United Nations Headquarters in Europe with the theme 'Investing in Sustainable Development'.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is due to address a press conference at Ganabhaban this afternoon to brief the media about her just-concluded visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, Bangladesh has now been transformed into a digital country due to various steps of her government in the last 10 years. The Premier said this while launching the mobile number portability services at a function at Ganabhaban yesterday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina terming the young generation as the biggest strength of the country has sought vote from them for Awami League in the upcoming elections to keep up the pace of development. The Premier made the urge while inaugurating 66 Sheikh Russel mini Stadiums in 66 upazilas, youth training centres in six districts and a multi-sports indoor complex at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan through a video conference from Ganabhaban yesterday.

The Livestock Research Institute Bill, 2018 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad in an amended form to make the livestock research institute more active and time befitting. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda moved the bill which was unanimously passed by voice votes in the House yesterday.

The National Road Safety Day is being observed in the country today amid different programmes, including rallies and discussions. President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the eve of the Day.

Home Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said, the country witnessed a remarkable development in the past 10 years as the present government implemented massive development programmes. The Minister said this while addressing a rally at Dewanchar Nabo High School in Narsingdi yesterday.

The Election Commission will announce the election schedule for the next general election after holding a meeting with President Md. Abdul Hamid which is due on November 1. EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said this to the media at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday. The EC Secretary also said, the commission has approved the electoral code of conduct amending some of its sections ahead of the next general election. According to the amendments, no living creatures can be used as election symbols and cloth-made posters cannot be used for election campaigning.

The maiden meeting of Intergovernmental Commission of Bangladesh and Russia begins in Moscow today where a 16-member Bangladesh delegation led by ERD Secretary Kazi Shafiqul Azam is due to discuss various issues including boosting trade and cooperation between the two friendly countries.

Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe yesterday in their first ODI match by 28 runs in the Sher-eBangla National Cricket Stadium. President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the Bangladesh Cricket Team over the victory.
