Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the business community to work vigorously to explore the export and other business opportunities in the global market following country’s graduation as a developing country from LDC. The Premier made the urge while distributing national Export Trophy for the year 2015-2016 at a function in Dhaka yesterday. A total of 56 enterprises of 24 sectors were given the trophy.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities and National Disabled Day-2018 is being observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today. On the eve of the day, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is attending a function marking the day at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka this morning.

Nomination papers of at least 786 political leaders including BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP leader Amanullah Aman and Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique have been cancelled as returning officers found flaws in their documents. The returning officers have declared 2,279 candidates qualified across the country for vying in the upcoming parliamentary election slated for December 30. The candidates, however, will be able to lodge appeal with the Election Commission against their disqualification for candidacy by December 5.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld its chamber judge’s order that halted a High Court order staying conviction and sentence of Jashore-2 BNP candidate Sabira Sultana. Following the order, people sentenced to more than two years would not be able to take part in the polls.

The Election Commission will begin its 24/7 monitoring of social media from today to check propaganda, spreading fake news and rumors ahead of the parliamentary election slated for December 30 this year. EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said this to the media at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday.

The government has refuted an issue spread on social media about ‘purchasing’ teachers and employees involved in the electoral process. a handout of press Information Department yesterday said, ‘rumour identification and prevention cell’ of the Information Ministry has confirmed the matter as rumour, completely untruth and motivated centering the forthcoming election.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has reiterated that not a single arrest has been made without court warrant as police have only arrested the people who are accused in specific cases. The Minister said this to the media while inaugurating the National Plan of Action for Prevention of Human Trafficking in Dhaka yesterday.

Law Minister Anisul Huq has invited the UAE government to invest in Bangladesh, particularly in the fields of infrastructure, power, energy, tourism and hospitality. The Minister made the invitation while addressing a function marking the 47th UAE National Day in Dhaka yesterday. During the function, Ambassador of the UAE to Bangladesh Saed Mohammed Al Mheiri said, the firmly-established Bangladesh-UAE brotherly relations will continue to move forward in the coming years.

State Minister for CHT Affairs Ministry Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing has said, communal harmony, peace and development process are prevailing in Chittagong Hill Tracts region. He said this at a discussion marking the completion of 21 years of the CHT Peace Accord in the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka yesterday.
