President Md. Abdul Hamid has urged mass media to play a responsible role by giving priority to the national interest. The President made the call while addressing a function on the occasion of 45th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Press Council and Press Council Award Giving Ceremony at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka yesterday. A total of seven awards were given to five personalities and two institutions for their outstanding contributions to journalism. Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud also spoke on the occasion.

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has assured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of looking very positively about Bangladeshi manpower in the UAE market. The Crown Prince gave the assurance in a meeting with the Bangladesh Prime Minister at Royal Palace yesterday. Reciprocating the request of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Crown Prince said that he would visit Bangladesh and see the market of Bangladeshi workers as well as investment very positively.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center yesterday. While exchanging views, the Ruler of Dubai said that the UAE government would openly consider the issue of recruiting Bangladeshi manpower. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also called on ‘Mother of Dubai’ Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, wife of founding President of UAE Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan at Al Bahar Palace yesterday.

Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Winnie Estrup Petersen has expressed her country’s interest to work closely with the Bangladesh government for the development of agricultural sector. The Danish Envoy expressed the eagerness during a meeting with Agricultural Minister Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak at his Ministry in Dhaka yesterday. The Minister sought Danish cooperation for food processing and marketing and mechanization of agriculture.

The five-day Biswa Ijtema is going to end today through Akheri Munajat following the extension of the congregation by a day due to inclement weather. Several lakh devotees from home and abroad took part in the Biswa Ijtema.

India has conferred its state-sponsored prestigious “Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony” on Bangladesh’s leading cultural group Chhayanaut for promoting spirit of cultural harmony. Indian President Ram Nath Kovind handed over the award to Chhayanaut President Dr. Sanjida Khatun for the year 2015 at a ceremony at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra in New Delhi yesterday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking on the occasion recalled Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit along with him to Santiniketan in April last year for inauguration of Bangladesh Bhavan there.

Planning Minister M A Mannan has said, the government has attained massive success through e-procurement which is a positive step forward towards ensuring transparency. The Minister was addressing a workshop on innovations in public service delivery at the BRAC Center Inn in the city yesterday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said, it is the jurisdiction of the court to decide on imposing a ban on the politics of the Jamaat-e-Islami which had opposed Bangladesh’s 1971 independence and whose several leaders were executed for their crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War. The Minister said this at a press conference at the AL President’s Dhanmondi political office yesterday.

Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda has asked the law enforces to discharge duties maintaining neutrality and sincerity in the upcoming Dhaka North and South City Corporations slated for February 28. He came up with the directive at a coordination meeting at the city’s Agargaon Nirbachan Bhaban yesterday on law and order marking the by election to Mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation and election to councilor posts in both North and South City Corporations.
