President Md. Abdul Hamid has directed the police to ensure maximum services without any harassment as the people choose police as their last resort. The President gave the directive at a function marking the Police Week 2018 in the capital's Rajarbagh Police Lines yesterday. He said, it is the constitutional right of the people to get police service; it is neither a favour nor a charity. Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Police Week-2018. On the occasion, the Premier conferred 182 law enforcers with awards in four categories including Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), President's Police Medal (PPM) for the bravery they demonstrated in providing services last year. Speaking at the function, the Prime Minister asked the police to achieve greater efficiency in technology to hunt down transnational organised criminals and those involved in money laundering, cybercrime and other crimes. The PM assured the police of arranging proper training at home and abroad to enhance their capability.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim has said, the government would not compromise on the question of quality medicine. He said, Bangladesh's pharmaceutical industry has a strong position in global pharmaceutical market after meeting the local demand. The Minister said this while addressing a meeting at the office of Directorate of Drug Administration in Dhaka yesterday. He said, the government is working to construct an Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients Park in Munshiganj.

Law Minster Anisul Haque has sought support of Britain on the repatriation of the convicted killers of intellectuals during the 1971 Liberation War. The Minister has sought the cooperation at a meeting with the speaker of London Tower Hamlet Sabina Akthar held at his ministry yesterday.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda has said, the government will lift ban on hilsa export soon. The Minister said this at a press briefing at his ministry yesterday. The Minister said, hilsha production was around 3.95 lakh metric tons in 2015-16 fiscal year and it crossed 5 lakh metric tons in 2016-17. He said, a new horizon of capturing fishes has opened by identifying new fisheries areas at the Bay of Bengal.

State Minister for Information Tarana Halim has called upon all officials, artistes and employees to work together to enhance the standard of news and programme of the Bangladesh Television. She made the urge at a meeting with high officials of BTV at the Information Ministry yesterday. The State Minister stressed on the quick digitalisation of BTV and assured all out cooperation from the ministry in this regard.

The lowest ever temperature of the country's history was recorded 2.6 degrees Celsius in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh district yesterday morning, hitting poor people hard. According to officials of met department, a cold wave is blowing over the country and it will continue for another couple of days. Meanwhile, 2,600 blankets were distributed among the distressed people at Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh in the last three days.

The BGMEA has distributed cheques of group insurance to nominees of workers and employees who died while doing jobs in their RMG units. BGMEA President handed over the group insurance cheques to the nominees of 150 workers and employees at a programme in Dhaka yesterday.

Kyrgyzstan has urged the Bangladesh entrepreneurs to invest and set up joint venture business projects to boost up bilateral economic cooperation. The call was made when Honorary Consul of Bangladesh at Kyrgyz Republic Temirbek Erkinov met leaders of FBCCI in Dhaka yesterday.

The government is set to sign a US $245 million additional loan agreement with the World Bank to ensure equity, efficiency and transparency in the safety-net programmes today. With the additional financing, the WB's total commitment to the project stands at $745 million.

The e-GP has witnessed an exponential growth to conduct public procurement online as about 80 percent of country's total public procurement up to the value of Tk 100 crore have come under e-GP till December 2017.
