High Commissioner Abida Islam hosted an interactive evening with Bangladeshi students in the UK on 29 January 2026.

Students from various universities across the UK joined the programme. During the discussion, students asked a range of questions and put forward suggestions regarding the challenges they face while studying in the UK.

Iffat Ara Jahan, Welfare and Diversity Officer of the Students’ Union at the University of Gloucestershire, underscored the need for Bangladeshi students to acquire different skills before coming to the UK. She also pointed out that Bangladeshi students could be more successful in the UK if they possess strong academic skills.

Md Nafis Fuad Niloy from the University of Hertfordshire emphasized that Bangladeshi students in the UK should focus more on their studies and contribute to Bangladesh after completing their academic activities.

Nayem Hasan, London Campus Officer of Anglia Ruskin University Students’ Union, stated that the Bangladesh Centre in London should play an active role as a cultural hub for Bangladeshis in the UK.

High Commissioner Abida Islam responded to the questions and noted the students’ suggestions. She also urged Bangladeshi students to play an active role in upholding Bangladesh’s image in the UK. She mentioned that the Bangladesh High Commission has already created a social media platform for Bangladeshi students in the UK to facilitate interaction with the High Commission.

Lamia Saiful, First Secretary (Passport & Visa), gave an extensive presentation to students on how consular services at the Bangladesh High Commission in London function. First Secretary Warishul Islam provided an overview of the High Commission’s diplomatic engagement. First Secretary Walid Mohammad at the Bangladesh High Commission moderated the programme.
