Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Quebec on a four-day official visit to Canada to attend the Outreach Leaders Programme of the G7. A flight of Air Canada, which left Toronto Pearson International Airport at 12pm local time, arrived in Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport at 2pm on Friday. Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada Mizanur Rahman received her at the airport. Earlier, an Emirates Airlines flight carrying the PM and her entourage landed at Toronto at 9.20 am local time.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will join the outreach session at Quebec City on June 9. On June 10, she will hold a bilateral meeting with her Canadian Counterpart Justin Trudeau in Quebec in the morning and join a views-exchange meeting with Bangladesh expatriates in Toronto in the evening. Besides, Sheikh Hasina will hold a meeting with Canada’s Special Envoy on Rohingya crisis Bob Rae in Toronto on June 11. The PM will return home on June 12.
Finance Minister A M A Muhith has said, the proposed national budget is implementable. He also said, the targets the government has set in the budget are achievable. The Minister said this while addressing a post budget press conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka yesterday. Earlier on Thursday, the Minister placed a Taka 4,64,573 crore budget at Jatiya Sangsad for the next fiscal year setting a GDP growth target of 7.8 percent.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said, Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony as the people of all faiths are living peacefully here. The Speaker said this at a function of International Buddhist Peace Conference-2018 at Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said, all necessary preparations have been taken to ensure smooth journey on the roads and highways for the home-goers during the Eid vacation. The Minister said this to the media while visiting the Meghna Launch Ghat at Sonargaon of Narayanganj yesterday.
