President Md. Abdul Hamid has sought effective role of the Vietnam government to ensure a safe, dignified, sustainable and voluntary return of the displaced Rohingyas of Myanmar. The President made the urge while Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang called on him at Bangabhaban yesterday. The Bangladesh President, in the meeting, put emphasis on taking joint initiatives of the investors of both the countries by availing potentials. The Vietnamese President lauded the role of Bangladesh in the Rohingya issue. He also praised the socioeconomic development of Bangladesh. The Vietnamese President said, his country always gives priority to the trade and investment relations with Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reiterated her government’s keen interests to intensify trade, and economic relations with the ASEAN countries. She sought Vietnam’s support in favour of Bangladesh’s desire to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN. The request was made during the bilateral talks between the Prime Minister and visiting Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang at the PMO yesterday. The Bangladesh PM urged the Vietnamese President to support Dhaka’s effort to join the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation. The Vietnamese President expressed his delight at the encouraging progress in the bilateral relations.

Visiting Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang paid a rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi yesterday. Earlier, the President went to the National Mausoleum in Savar in the morning and paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War. The Vietnamese President also visited the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday. The President accompanied by Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury went round different sections of the National Parliament.

The National Jute Day-2018 is being observed today throughout the country amid enthusiasm with a view to making jute goods popular among the people. The government chalked out a weeklong programme to mark the day. On the eve of the day, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is attending a function marking the National Jute Day at BICC in Dhaka this morning.

President Md. Abdul Hamid is going to India on March 8 on a five-day tour to join the founding ceremony of International Solar Alliance. The President will attend the conference in New Delhi on March 11.

The registration process of the pilgrims intending to perform Hajj this year under private management will begin today. This was revealed at a press conference organised by Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh in Dhaka yesterday. The government fixed the lowest package under private management at Taka 3,32,868 this year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to do whatever necessary for the better treatment of eminent writer and educationist Professor Zafar Iqbal. The PM gave the directive while visiting Zafar Iqbal at the CMH in Dhaka. During the visit, the PM talked to the family members of Zafar.

The government has nominated 16 distinguished personalities for the 'Swadhinata Padak- 2018' (Independence Award) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards to them at a function at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on March 25.
