Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, the government is committed to stamp out food adulteration in the country to ensure safe food for the people. The Premier said this while addressing a function on the occasion of the National Food Safety Day-2019 at the Krishibid Institution at Farmgate in Dhaka yesterday. The Prime Minister said, her government will set up a central laboratory and its branches in all divisions of the country for the purpose of checking food adulteration.

The five-day 'Police Week-2019' begins across the country today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital. The PM will hand over awards to 349 police and Rapid Action Battalion personnel for their outstanding performance and bravery in combating crime. President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in separate messages, greeted all members of Bangladesh Police on the occasion of the police week.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on her assumption of office as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fourth time. The Ethiopian Leader in his message yesterday wished success of the new government in Bangladesh.

The Election for reserved women seats of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad will be held on March 4. EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed announced the election schedule at a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday. The Election Commission has also decided that the upcoming Upazila Parishad Election will be held in five phases while the first phase of the poll will be held at 87 upazilas under four districts on March 10.

Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has paid glowing tributes to Suranjit Sengupta, one of the country’s veteran parliamentarians, and recalled his outstanding contribution to non communal politics. The Minister paid homage to the former Awami League advisory council member while speaking at a memorial meeting marking the second death anniversary of the leader at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka yesterday.

The Education Ministry is scrutinizing distribution of wrong SSC question papers at some centers on the first day of SSC examinations on Saturday. Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni came up with the remarks while visiting an examination centre at Bakshibazar Alia Madrasa in Dhaka yesterday. The Minister also said strict surveillance has been made to stop question paper leaks.

Commerce minister Tipu Munshi has urged International Labour Organization (ILO) to play a role in the logical price hike for Bangladesh of readymade garment items. The Minister made the urge while exchanging views with ILO Country Director Tuomo Poutiainen at his ministry in Dhaka yesterday.

Bangladesh and India is set to discuss bilateral issues like communication, water, connectivity, security, power, energy, border management, trade and commerce in the fifth India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission meeting in New Delhi on Friday. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations in the meeting.

The Religious Affairs Ministry and Local Government Division (LGD) have signed a MoU to construct 162 model mosques under a project of building 560 mosques in all upazilas and districts. LGD Senior Secretary SM Ghulam Farooque and Religious Affairs Secretary Anisur Rahman signed the MoU at a function at LGD conference room at the Secretariat in Dhaka yesterday.

Bangladesh is performing well and is on the track towards attaining many targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This was disclosed at a launching ceremony of a report on SDGs in Dhaka yesterday. PM’s Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman spoke at the function as the chief guest.
