Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the Global Women’s Leadership Award in Sydney yesterday. The US-based Global Summit of Women conferred the prestigious accolade on Sheikh Hasina for her leadership in women's education and entrepreneurship. The PM received the award from Global Summit of Women President Irene Natividad at a gala dinner of the organization in the Australian city. Sheikh Hasina, in her address on the occasion said: "I am highly glad and deeply honored" to receive the Global Women Leadership Award 2018. The PM dedicated the award to the women across the world, who have shown their might in changing their lots. Earlier at the function, a video documentary on the political life of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh's economic progress and different steps taken by her government for women empowerment was screened.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought continuous pressure from the Australian government on Myanmar to resolve the Rohingya crisis. The Prime Minister came up with the call when Australian Foreign Minister Juile Bishop met her at her hotel suite in Sydney yesterday. The Australian Minister assured that her country has always been for a solution to the Rohingya issue.

Vietnam Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Sydney yesterday. The Vietnam Vice President sought Bangladesh’s support for her country in the election of non-permanent member post in the United Nations Security Council for 2020-21.

A 15-member UN Security Council team is arriving in Bangladesh today to discuss Rohingya issue with the government. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam is due to receive the delegation members at Cox's Bazar. During the visit, the team would have a firsthand report on the plight of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.

The $2.67 billion loan agreement of Padma rail link project has been signed. Additional Secretary of the ERD M Zahidul Haq and China Exim Bank Vice President Sun Ping signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides at Exim Bank of China’s head office in Beijing yesterday.

Food Minister Quamrul Islam has said, Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in food as the government has implemented various programmes to increase food production in the country.  The Minister said this at a function of Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka yesterday. Quamrul Islam said, the government is working to ensure safe food for healthy life of the people.

The government has formed a high-profile investigation committee to look into the February 7 attack on the Bangladesh High Commission in London. Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York Masud Bin Momen has been made head of the committee comprising representatives from the Prime Minister's office and Foreign Ministry.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in London Khondker M Talha has been withdrawn and asked to join the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Dhaka before May 7.
