President Md. Abdul Hamid has urged the voters to elect people who would not deceive the general public and would never be their master after being elected. The President made the call while addressing a mass-reception at Austagram in Kishoreganj yesterday. The President, at the function, inaugurated a number of development projects. In the evening, the President exchanged views with a cross-section of people at Rastropati Abdul Hamid Auditorium there. The President is now in Kishoreganj on a five-day visit to Kishoreganj.

 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, the global community must act to get scrapped Myanmar’s discriminatory laws, policies and practices against the Rohingyas to resolve the crisis involving them. The PM said this while addressing a high-level event on the global refugee issue at the UN Headquarters in New York yesterday. The Bangladesh PM, in her address, placed three-point recommendations to ensure the safe return of the forcefully displaced Rohingyas staying in Cox's Bazar. UN Secretary-General António Guterres also attended the event arranged in the sidelines of the UNGA.

 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, addressing a civic reception hosted in her honour by expatriates Bangladeshis on Sunday in a hotel in New York said, the killers, money-launderers and interest-takers became united against the government and feared the country would be destroyed if they could come to power. She called upon the countrymen to get united against the vested quarters for sake of continuation of the ongoing development programs.

 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who arrived in New York on Sunday on a weeklong official visit, would address the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in the evening local time on 27 September. The Bangladesh PM would have a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the same day.

 

Bangladesh’s first geostationary communication satellite Bangabandhu-1 was handed over by the French manufacturing company Thales Alenia Space to Bangladesh's telecom regulator’s project officials yesterday. Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood talking to media said, Thales handed over the satellite following satisfactory result from the final technical test carried during the solar eclipse that occurred on 21 September.

 

Indian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu arrived in Dhaka yesterday on a five-day visit to Bangladesh to discuss trade and other bilateral issues. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed received the Indian Minister on his arrival at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

 

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda has expected the Hilsa production to exceed five lakh metric tons in the last financial year. The contribution of Hilsa in country's total fish production is 12 per cent and its contribution to GDP is more than one per cent, said the Minister while talking to the media in Dhaka yesterday.

 

The United States expressed its interest to make an investment in the telecommunication sector in Bangladesh. The US expressed its interest as its Envoy Marcia Bernicat called on Posts, Telecommunication and ICT Affairs Minister Mustafa Jabbar at his ministry in Dhaka yesterday.
