President Md. Abdul Hamid took oath for the second consecutive term as the country's 21st President of the country at a ceremony at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban last evening. Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered his oath. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be awarded with the prestigious Global Women's Leadership Award in recognition of her leadership role in expansion of women education and women entrepreneurship. Global Summit of Women, a US-based NGO will confer the award to the Bangladesh Premier during the Global Summit of Women in Sydney on April 27. Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka tomorrow for Sydney at the invitation of her Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull.

Finance Minister A M A Muhith has urged the international community to extend cooperation to the countries graduated from the LDC status to ensure smooth graduation. The Minister made the urge while addressing a forum on financing for development at the UN headquarters in New York yesterday.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has inaugurated an Air Separation Unit plant with a production capacity of 100 tons air gas per day. Linde Bangladesh set up the plant at a cost of Taka 160 crore. Speaking on the occasion in Dhaka yesterday the Minister said, the country's medical and industrial sectors need 63 tones of oxygen everyday. The new plant will help meet the demand of gas in the country, he added.

Visiting Health Minister of Congo Dr Oly Ilunga Kalenga has lauded Bangladesh's achievements in the health sector especially in the activities of community clinic across the country. The Congolese Minister came up with the admiration at a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Mohammed Nasim at his office in Dhaka yesterday.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said, amicable sharing and collective harnessing of water resources is the golden key of regional cooperation. The Minister was addressing a BIMSTEC conference at Gangtok in Sikkim yesterday.

Science and Technology Minister Yafesh Osman has said, country's first ever nuclear power plant at Rooppur is being constructed giving utmost importance on security and safety issues. The Minister said this while addressing a three-day workshop on the safety of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at Agargaon in Dhaka yesterday.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal has urged the Arab nations to make investment in the tourism sector in Bangladesh. The Minister made the urge while speaking at a press conference in Dubai on Monday after opening Bangladesh Pavilion at the Arabian Travel Fair there.

A Director General level conference between BGB and BSF of India began at the BGB Headquarters in Dhaka yesterday. High officials of the Indian Home and External Affairs Ministries led by BSF DG KK Sharma are attending the conference.

President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of renowned poet, essayist and journalist Belal Chaudhuri who breathed his last in Dhaka yesterday.
