The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, her government is taking all plans and programmes with a goal of changing the fate of the grassroots people of the villages. The Premier said this while presiding over the ECNEC meeting at the Planning Commission at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka yesterday. The ECNEC approved eight development projects including Jatrabari-Demra highway upgrade project, involving a total of Tk. 18.93 billion.

German Chancellor Dr. Angela Markel extended her heartfelt congratulations to Sheikh Hasina on her reassumption of office as the Prime Minister for the fourth time and the third consecutive term. German Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz conveyed the congratulatory message as the Envoy called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban in Dhaka yesterday. In the message, the German Chancellor wished Bangladesh’s every success as it continues on its path of economic and social development.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her reappointment as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fourth time following her party's landslide victory in the 11th Parliamentary Election. The Greek PM in his message yesterday wished success of the new government in Bangladesh.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said the relations between Bangladesh and Iran can be boost up by parliamentary practice and experiences. The speaker said this while Iranian Ambassador in Dhaka Mohammad Reza Nafar made a courtesy call on her at the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday. Qatar Ambassador Ahmed Mohamed Al-Dehaimi also paid a courtesy call on the Speaker at the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday. The Envoy while exchanging views expressed eagerness of his country to give continuous support to Bangladesh.

The by-election to Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral post will be held on February 28. EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed announced the election schedule at a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday. Elections to the councillor and reserved councillor posts in the newly extended 36 wards in DNCC and 18 wards under Dhaka South City Corporation will be held on the same day. Election schedule for reserved women seats in 11th Jatiya Sangsad will be announced on February 3.The upazila parishad elections will be held in five phases starting from March this year, EC Secretary added.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said, zero tolerance policy against corruption will be strictly followed at the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation. He told this at a view-exchange meeting with the BRTC officials and its depot managers at BRTC building in Dhaka yesterday. The Minister also said, more 600 buses and 500 trucks will be added to the BRTC fleet by April next.

Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has said the government is sincere about implementation of the 9th Wage Board Award for journalists and employees of newspapers and news agencies. The Minister said to the reporters before a meeting with journalists’ unions at his secretariat office in Dhaka yesterday.

Railways Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan has said, a railway bridge will be set up alongside Bangabandhu Bridge on the Jamuna River. The government has taken a plan to build a double-gauge rail bridge, which will be constructed 300-foot up from the Bangabandhu Bridge, funded by Japan. The Minister said to the reporters while visiting Saidpur railway workshop in Nilphamari yesterday.

Principal Information Officer Kamrun Nahar has been made secretary to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification in this regard yesterday.
