President Md. Abdul Hamid hosts an iftar party at Bangabhaban today for alem-ulema, warwounded freedom fighters, family members of Birsresthas, orphans, and officials and employees of the Bangabhaban.

World Metrology Day is being observed today in the country as elsewhere in the world. The theme for the Day is 'Constant Evolution of the International System of Units'. To mark the day, BSTI has drawn up different programmes. President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the eve of day.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has asked the authorities concerned to repair all roads and highways by June 8 for smooth vehicular movement during the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr. The Minister issued the directive at a meeting at Kaliakoir of Gazipur yesterday. The Minister urged the members of law enforcement agencies, officials of Road Transport and Highways Division and local people to work together to prevent traffic jam and public sufferings during the Eid. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki joined the meeting.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim left the country yesterday for Geneva, Switzerland to attend the 71st conference of World Health Organisation. The Minister would deliver his speech today at the Commonwealth conference on behalf of Health Ministers’ of Asian region.

Foreign Minister A H Mahmud Ali has urged OIC to find an alternative multi-power multistakeholder platform to take forward the peace process to a meaningful end regarding Palestine crisis. He made the urge while addressing an extraordinary OIC summit on Palestine in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday. The FM said, the impunity demonstrated by Israel and the disregard shown by the US Administration to international norm and laws have outraged the people of Bangladesh.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said, the present government adopted zero tolerance policy against illegal drugs in the country. He said this while talking to the media on the concluding day of a two-day conference at the National Council of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad at Dhakeswari Mandir in the capital yesterday.

DMP has issued a set of directives including taking its escort facility to carry huge amount of money to evade being victimised of robbery and mugging during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-fitr. The DMP has requested the city dwellers to contact with the local police station or Police Control Room to get the money-escort service.

International Monetary Fund has unveiled its report on Bangladesh's economic and financial indicators upto April 2018. According to this report, Bangladesh has been able to keep up an average annual growth rate of six percent over last ten years with 7.28% outturn in fiscal year 2016-2017.

DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange slumped 2.6 per cent or 143.91 points over the week to finish at 5,443.31 points on Thursday, the last trading session of the week.
