Expatriates‟ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam B.Sc yesterday informed the parliament that 10,08,525 Bangladeshi workers have been sent to 165 countries in 2017. More 47,027 have gone abroad for wage earning till May 2018, he added.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has said, nearly 300 green readymade garment factories are under construction apart from existing 67 such factories in the country. A total of 67 RMG factories have so far been certified as „green factories‟ by the United States Green Building Council, and of them 17 factories are included as the platinum class, he said replying to a question in the Parliament yesterday.

Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam has said, the country‟s food stock capacity has now stood at 21,18822 metric tons. The Minister said this while replying to a question at the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday. In addition to this, he said, a new food godown with a capacity of 1000 mt will be constructed at Louhajang in Munshiganj. He further informed that country‟s total food stockpile is now 12,18645 mt.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim are likely to visit Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar soon. Finance Minister A M A Muhith said this while talking to media at his office yesterday.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein has said, Myanmar has not met the minimum standards in investigating or prosecuting those engaged in the violence against the Rohingyas. He said this in the opening statement of the 38th session of Human Rights Council in Geneva yesterday.

The overall flood situation in Moulvibazar district has improved as the water level of the Manu and Dhalai rivers decreased further yesterday. However, new areas in the district town were submerged as water entered those through the beach of the town protection dam along the Manu river. Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya visited the affected areas yesterday.

United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Bangladesh Saed Mohamed Al Mheiri has said, his country wants to be one of the major foreign investors in Bangladesh. The UAE envoy came up with the remark while talking to reporters at a press briefing at his chancery office in the capital yesterday.

The country received nearly US$ 900 million in remittances in the first half of the current month as overseas Bangladeshis sent higher volume of money back home ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
