Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached London in the early hours of today on a six-day official visit to the United Kingdom to join the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). British Premier Theresa May's representative Neil Holland received her at the airport.
The Prime Minister is due to attend the Commonwealth Women Forum as a presenter on quality education for girls at Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre at Westminster. Sheikh Hasina will join a high-level programme to be organised by Overseas Development Institute in the afternoon. She will be the keynote speaker on the development of Bangladesh issue. On April 18, Sheikh Hasina will attend the Asian leaders' roundtable. The Prime Minister will join a dinner to be hosted by British Premier Theresa May in the afternoon. On April 19, Sheikh Hasina will attend the formal opening of the CHOGM. She will join a dinner of Queen Elizabeth II in honour of Heads of Government at the Buckingham Palace.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday joined the concluding ceremony of a Saudi-led joint grand military exercise named "Gulf Shield-1" in the kingdom's eastern province of Al- Jubail. Saudi King and the custodian of the two holy mosques Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud greeted Sheikh Hasina on her arrival at the venue. Twenty four countries including Bangladesh participated the month-long military exercise.

The nation is observing  the historic Mujibnagar Day today to recall the history as on this day in 1971 the nation witnessed the oath-taking of the country's first government. President Md.  Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina  issued separate messages marking the day.

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said , the present government has set up a glaring example of establishing Islamic values in the society. The Speaker said this at a function arranged by Islamic Foundation  at Tukuria union parishad premises  in  Pirganj upazila of Rangpur. She said, the Islamic Foundation founded by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman  is working relentlessly for welfare of the Alem-Ulamas.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said, the government has been working to attain $5 billion export target from the ICT sector by 2021.The Industries Minister said this while addressing a seminar titled "4th Industrial Revolution: Challenges of Business Process Outsourcing" held at a city hotel yesterday marking the BPO Summit 2018.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim has said, Begum Khaleda Zia is taking medicine regularly following the prescription of doctors and she is fine now. The government must follow the jail code while providing treatment to her. The Minister said this while speaking at a press briefing at his ministry in Dhaka yesterday.           

As many as 33,71,487 extreme poor people across the country are getting benefit from One House One Farm scheme initiated by the Prime Minister to alleviate poverty of the marginal section of people across the country. Senior Secretary of Local Government Division Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan informed this as he was talking to media yesterday.

Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom of the United States Sam Brownback arrives in Dhaka tomorrow on a two-day official visit to discuss religious freedom with government officials, civil society representatives and others concerned. During his visit, he will travel to Cox's Bazar where he will interact with a group of Rohingya people.
