Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced scrapping of quota system in public service and urged students to return to their classes. The Premier made the announcement in parliament yesterday. The Premier, however, said the government could create job arrangement for the people with disabilities and the ethnic minority ones after abolishing the quota system.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, a nation can flourish through the intense practice of cultural activities and it is strongly true for Bangladesh's independence, the War of Liberation and democratic movements. The PM said this while inaugurating the silver jubilee programme of a renowned cultural organisation, Surer Dhara at BICC in Dhaka yesterday.

Comptroller and Auditor General Masud Ahmed submitted annual audit reports to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad office yesterday. While receiving the audit reports, the Premier put emphasis on conducting audit at both government and private offices regularly to ensure accountability and transparency in their work.

 Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said, the government is working to establish environment-friendly green economy. The Minister was addressing the plenary session of the 'High Level Eighth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific' in Madhya Pradesh of India on Tuesday.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal has said, families of the passengers who were killed in US- Bangla aircraft crash in Kathmandu will receive minimum US 50,000 dollars from insurance company as per compensation. He informed this while talking to journalists at a press briefing at his ministry yesterday.

The visiting Myanmar Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye has assured the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals to take them back to Myanmar within a short span of time. He made the assurance while talking to the Rohingya people during his visit to Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar yesterday.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said, the incumbent government had taken effective steps to improve industrial environment, particularly in the apparel sector. The Minister was speaking at a meeting organized jointly by National Coordination Committee on Workers Education and Industrial Bangladesh Council at the CIRDAP auditorium yesterday.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has expressed the hope that the GDP growth rate in the current fiscal year would further raise from the provisional estimation of 7.65 percent. The Minister said this while speaking at 'Meet the Press' at the NEC Conference Room in Dhaka yesterday.

The Asian Development Bank has said, the economic outlook of Bangladesh remains broadly optimistic as the country's economy is expected to continue to do well. ADB Country Director to Bangladesh Manmohan Parkash said this at the launching ceremony of the Asian Development Outlook 2018 at its Dhaka office yesterday.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam has urged Uzbekistan to resume air flights with Dhaka, ease issuance of visa and open its mission in Bangladesh. He made the request as he met Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov Khafizovich in Tashkent, Uzbekistan yesterday. The Uzbek Foreign Minister assured considering those issues positively.
