President Md. Abdul Hamid has urged the scouts to stand against social menaces like drug abuse, terrorism and militancy. The President made the call while addressing the 10th Bangladesh and 3rd South Asian Association of National Scout Organization Scout Jamboree-2019 at the National Scout Training Center at Mouchak in Gazipur yesterday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi will jointly inaugurate four projects in Bangladesh including supply of 1,100 buses and trucks to BRTC. The two Premiers would open the schemes through a videoconference from their respective capitals at 1:10 pm today.

Newly appointed Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das reiterated India’s support to Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue as she paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Jatiya Sangsad Office yesterday. The High Commissioner said, the international community has recognised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s great human gesture of hosting more than one million Rohingyas in Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has won this year's “Lifetime Contribution for Women Empowerment Award” given by the Institute of South Asian Women marking the International Women’s Day. Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Imtiaz Ahmed received the award on behalf of the Premier at a ceremony in Berlin on March 7.

Chief of Naval Staff A M M M Aurangzeb Chowdhury was adorned with the rank badge of Admiral in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in Dhaka yesterday. Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat adorned the Navy Chief with the new rank badge.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office yesterday witnessed a power point presentation on the design of Bangladesh Government Employees Welfare Building to be constructed at Dilkusha in Dhaka. Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Foyez Ahmed apprised the Prime Minister of different aspects of the building design.

The government has finalized the names of 12 noted personalities and one institution for Independence Award-2019 for their glorious and remarkable contributions at the national level. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to handover the award to the recipients at a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city on March 25.

Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal has said, the country’s macro-economic indicators, including export earning, remittance and foreign exchange reserve were satisfactory in the first quarter of the current fiscal. The Minister made the statement while placing a report on budget implementation progress at the State Guest House Padma in Dhaka yesterday.

The Animal Welfare Bill, 2019 and the Plant variety protection Bill, 2019 were placed in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday. The House unanimously decided for sending the bills to the parliamentary standing committees for scrutiny. The Jatiya Sangsad reconstituted ten more parliamentary standing committees yesterday.

The first phase of upazila parishad election was held in a free and fair manner at 78 upazilas yesterday. Election Commission suspended polling at 28 centers out of 5,847 centers. In the elections, 207 people contested for position of chairman, 386 for vice-chairman and 249 women contested for the positions of vice-chair reserved for women.

The much-awaited Dhaka University Central Students' Union and Hall Union Polls are being held today after 28 years. A total of 229 candidates are contesting against 25 DUCSU posts.
