President Md. Abdul Hamid is due to deliver his speech at the plenary session of the ‘Founding Conference of the International Solar Alliance and Solar Summit-2018’ this morning. The President who reached India on March 8 visited many places of Assam and Meghalaya where he stayed during the War of Liberation in 1971.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka today on a four-day official visit to Singapore at the invitation of her Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong. The flight is scheduled to reach Changi Airport in Singapore at 14.45 p.m. (local time).  On Monday, Sheikh Hasina will be given a welcome reception by the Singapore government. After the reception, she will pay a courtesy call on Singapore President Halimah Yacob at the Istana. Official talks between the PM and her Singaporean counterpart will take place on Monday morning.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said, the role of judiciary is crucial in establishing justice in society. She said this while speaking at a reception accorded to newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in Dhaka yesterday. The Speaker at her speech laid importance on coordination and good relations among three organs of the state for ensuring an equity-based society removing all sorts of deprivations.

The first-ever Bangladesh Youth Games-2018 began at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while opening the event expressed her hope that the country could effectively counter militancy and terrorism through games and sports. The PM also said, engagement in sports also instill into one the sense of discipline and responsibility, perseverance, dutifulness and tolerance alongside resulting in cultural blooming. Bangladesh Olympic Association organised the weeklong competition drawing 2660 under-17 athletes from eight divisions for 1,114 medals including 342 golds in 159 events. The Games will conclude on March 16.

Bangladesh secured an emphatic victory by beating Sri Lanka by five wickets in the third T20 of the tri-nation NIDAHAS Trophy at R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo yesterday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated Bangladesh cricket team over the victory.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya has said, none suffered due to dearth of food during natural disasters in 2017 as the government had ensured sustainable disaster management. The Minister said this while speaking at a seminar marking the National Disaster Preparedness Day-2018 at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka yesterday.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal has said, his ministry will set up a monitoring cell to help the country's private airlines. He said this while speaking at a function in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.

Frontier forces of Bangladesh and India BGB and BSF for the first time have announced an 8.3-kilometre area of their common border as a 'Crime Free Zone'. The announcement came from a function held at Bangaon border of the West Bengal in India yesterday. BGB Director General Maj. Gen. Abul Hossain and BSF Director General K.K. Sharma joined the function.

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry Abul Hasnat Abdullah, MP has got the status of Minister.  He was given the status through a notification signed by Cabinet Division Secretary on Thursday.

Germany has once again emerged as Bangladesh’s largest export market overtaking the United States in July-February of the current fiscal year 2017-18. The export earnings from Germany during the period stood at $3.92 billion which is $23.22 million higher than that from the US market.
