Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visiting Canada to attend Outreach Session of the G7 Summit met her Canadian Counterpart Justin Trudeau in Quebec yesterday morning local time. The PM attended a function arranged by Bangladesh expatriates in Toronto yesterday evening. Before starting for Dhaka today afternoon, the PM will meet Canada’s Special Envoy to Myanmar Bob Rae, Minister of Trade and Export Development and Immigration and Career Training of Saskatchewan Jeremy Harison, and Canadian Commercial Corporation President and CEO Martin Zablocki. The Premier is expected to return home via Dubai on Tuesday night.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called for development of partnership of G7 countries with vulnerable countries for sustainable management and protection of marine and coastal ecosystem. She made the call in an intervention on issues of world oceans at G7 Outreach Meeting in Quebec on Saturday.

The 10th anniversary of release of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from prison is being observed today. On this day in 2008, Sheikh Hasina was released from the special sub-jail set up on the premises of the Jatiya Sangsad Building after remaining captive there for nearly 11 months. The Awami League President was arrested from her Sudha Sadan residence at Dhanmondi on July 16, 2007 during the military-backed caretaker government, which assumed power in the political changeover of 1/11 in 2007. Marking the day, Dhaka city south unit of Awami League has arranged a discussion at Ladies Club at Eskaton in the capital this afternoon. Besides, Awami Juba League has organised a discussion at Mahanagar Natya Manch today morning.

President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have extended their heartiest congratulations to Bangladesh women cricket team as they achieved a three-wicket win over India in the T20 Asia Cup final at the Kinara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said, the Metrorail communication from Uttara third phase to Agargaon would start operation from 2019. The Minister said this during the question and answer session in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday. The authority concerned has decided to introduce metrorail Agargaon-Motijheel within 2020, he added.

A Bill titled 'The Textile Act, 2018' was placed in Parliament yesterday, aiming to maintain the quality of textile products as Bangladesh earns huge foreign currency from apparel exports. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam placed the Bill in the House. The Bill was sent to the respective scrutiny committee for further examination.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim has said, the 500-bed specialized 'Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery' will start functioning in September. The Minister said this while visiting the under-construction institute in Dhaka yesterday. The 12- storied institute will provide advanced treatment to burn patients while physicians and nurses will also get training from it, she added.

Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif has said, the government is working to expand rail network across the country for improving smooth movement of the people. The Minister said while addressing at a function in Ishardi yesterday.

DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, lost 0.80 per cent, or 43.37 points, to close at 5,323.29 points yesterday.
