Ambassadors of six countries and high commissioner of two countries to Bangladesh separately presented their respective credentials to President Md. Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban yesterday. Out of eight, two resident ambassadors are from Denmark and Iran and six non-resident envoys are from Austria, Slovak, Uganda, Poland, Ghana and Kazakhstan. Welcoming the envoys, the President expressed the hope the bilateral ties with these countries will further be expanded during their stay in Bangladesh.

The ECNEC has approved the establishment of Sheikh Hasina University in Netrakona and 27 other projects involving Tk 30,235 crore. The approval came from the ECNEC meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair yesterday.

The second round of dialogue between Awami League-led 14 party combine and Jatiyo Oikya Front on upcoming national election concluded yesterday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s reassurance to hold a free, fair and credible election. Prime Minister, while exchanging views, put emphasised on maintaining development spree to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country. The Prime Minister said, the country achieved 7.86 percent GDP growth and reduced inflation to 5.4 percent due to various steps of the government. The Prime Minister also attended dialogue between Awami League-led 14 party combine and 24 political parties yesterday.

Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda will address the nation and announce the schedule for the 11th parliamentary election at 7 pm today.

Awami League Election Steering Committee Co-Chairman H T Imam has said, it is the sole jurisdiction of the Election Commission to declare the polls schedule. He said this to the media after a meeting with the EC at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday. H T Imam also said, his party assured the EC of providing allout support from the government.

Election Commission has expressed the hope that all political parties will participate in the upcoming parliamentary election. Secretary of the Election Commissioner Helal Uddin Ahmed made the comments while talking to media at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon yesterday. The EC would strictly follow electoral code of conduct for holding the next general election peacefully, he added.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said, march past would not be held at the National Parade Ground on December 16 this year due to the upcoming national election. He said this after a meeting on law and order on the occasion of the Victory Day celebration at his ministry yesterday.

Dhaka-Tangail commuter train service comes into operation from today, fulfilling a commitment made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2012. Two trains named ‘Tangail Commuter-1’ and ‘Tangail Commuter-2’ will run between Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka and Bangabandhu Setu Railway Station in Tangail.

Asian Development Bank has approved a finance package of more than US $200 million to improve the rural road network in Bangladesh.
