The Cabinet has approved the draft of ‘The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University Bill, 2018’ to establish a higher educational institution for promotion and upgradation of the aeronautical and aerospace studies in the country. The approval was given at the Cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair yesterday. The Cabinet also cleared the draft of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Labour Bill-2018, Insurance Corporation Bill-2018, International Mother Language Institute (Amendment) Bill-2018 and Chattogram Hill Tracts (Land Acquisition, Amendment) Regulation-1958.
Prior to cabinet meeting at PMO, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu yesterday handed over a book containing the speeches of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in different sessions of the 9th parliament.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, the government is framing a policy for protecting the rights of the disabled, ethnic minority community and disadvantageous people in the government jobs. The Premier said this while inaugurating programmes marking the 27th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 20th National Disabled Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka yesterday.
A total of 82 candidates has appealed to the Election Commission against cancellation of their nomination papers for the upcoming general election. The CEC leading an appeal authority would give its decision after hearings on pleas on December 6, 7 and 8. Returning officers cancelled 786 nomination papers during scrutiny and announced 2,279 nomination papers legal.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said, the decision to cancel the nomination papers of some BNP leaders, including Party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, is under jurisdiction of the Election Commission. The EC had cancelled the candidacy on the basis of their rules and the government cannot do anything in this regard. The Minister said this while talking to media at the AL President’s political office at Dhanmondi yesterday.
Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder has urged officials concerned to apply the electoral rules equally for all candidates in the upcoming general election. He made the urge at a training programme for the election officials at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday. The EC will never tolerate any negligence of the election officials in performing their duties during the polls, the Election Commissioner cautioned.
The Election Commission has asked the registered political parties to name their final candidates by December 9 in the parliamentary seats where the parties or alliances have more than one candidate. The commission yesterday sent letters to the 39 registered political parties in this regard.

TYPSA, a Spanish consulting engineering group, presented its report on constructing much desired Subway in the capital for curbing traffic jam.
A seminar titled ‘Transformative Development of Bangladesh and the Advancement of Women’ was held at Bangabandhu Auditorium of Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Rabab Fatima presented a keynote paper in the seminar, highlighting the country’s development achieved in different sectors.
